Aztec Shops is responsible for operating the bookstore and all restaurants and food service operations (to include Catering and Concessions) on the campus of San Diego State University. Our workforce consists of 150 full-time professional/management employees, and up to 770 part-time employees (mostly college students) during our busiest times of year. We offer a variety of positions in fun and diverse environments, with the goal of helping college students gain valuable work experience while keeping their education their number one priority.

Other positions, such as Food Service Associates (Dining) and Sales Associates (Bookstore) are not posted on the web, but instead are advertised during the hiring seasons by signage on campus. If interested in applying to any of our positions, please download, complete, and submit an Employment Application to the e-mail provided on the job posting.

Depending on the position, some applicants will be hired at time of interview, and others may go through a panel or multiple one-on-one interviews. Therefore, please be sure to bring all applicable unexpired documents to verify your eligibility to work in the United States at time of interview. Reasonable Assurance
The majority of jobs at Aztec Shops are part-time, which is to accommodate student employees' needs while attending classes. All of our part-time jobs provide "Reasonable Assurance" that there will be part-time hours available (in their previous department, or similar) upon returning from summer and winter breaks. Since the location of our business operates on a University campus, and our jobs are based on an academic schedule, part-time employees may not be eligible for Unemployment Insurance during these scheduled breaks (California Unemployment Insurance Code, Section 822). Aztec Shops has a strict policy regarding disclosing a current employee’s employment information, to include Employment Verification, Reference Checks and Letters of Recommendation. Dates of employment and position will always be released, but a signed release is required for the disclosure of any other information (i.e. pay, performance history).

If the time comes where you wish to resign, we ask that you give a written or e-mailed two-week notice of when your last work day will be so we can schedule you accordingly. Employees will be paid their final paycheck in accordance with current CA law.

If you have retired from Aztec Shops, or just reached retirement age, you may have retirement funds available for withdrawal.

Employees who worked in a Salary, Hourly, or Part-time non-student pay status and who were participants in either the CalPERS Retirement Plan (Salary), or Defined Benefit Plan (Hourly/Part-time) are to contact the Senior Director of Management Services at 619-594-7501 / for information regarding applying for withdrawal of their retirement funds.
